We worked with Onur for 10 years. During this 10-year period, we successfully completed projects that would be the most special examples of their kind. Onur managed both design and client relations in these projects with great success. It would be a source of pride for me to support him on his journey with this experience. All the best.

Onur was a precious son of ours, whose childhood I knew, whose family I knew closely, and who was in our lives before he started his professional life. Later, as interior designer Onur Özgül, he touched our lives in a completely different way and made our family home, full of memories, brand new and functional. He is an architect who is successful in his profession, does meticulous work and besides all these virtues, observes commercial ethics. I wish him success in his career. All my love.

We couldn’t go to the World Veterans Championship in Lausanne. People with perfectionist structures do archery. I would describe you as one of those rare people who are disciplined, courageous, roll up their sleeves for a new job, egoless, and goal-oriented. When you start a job, your professional drawings, sketchbooks, and starting with the first step show how much work discipline you have. It is impossible not to be successful in life with these personality traits. Your morality, character and personality traits are indisputable. There are good people around you. I think you are one of the few people whose personality cannot be affected by money. We had a master-apprentice relationship. Despite all your experience and expertise, the respect you have for your master in a subject you have just learned has always impressed me. You never put the wealth you had before life. If you hadn’t been injured, you would have represented our country with awards in the World Veterans Championship in Lausanne. I knew that, but it’s not too late.

Onur always says the things he sees wrong while doing his job. I think he is doing the best job. I don’t know if he will be successful or happy in small projects, but it is certain that he will be successful and happy in big projects. He integrates his job with his soul and himself, loves his profession, knows the technique very well, and always finds common ground by explaining his own foresight to his customers in the right way without hiding it. For this reason, I really enjoyed working with him. I will definitely work with him again on such a comprehensive project. He is one of the rare architects who has never fought or argued in his career as an architect and engineer, and has never disappointed anyone. I always describe him with one sentence: The gentleman of Adana. Onur has many good aspects. If you have a discomfort and share it, he will definitely listen. He does not act capriciously or egoistically. He explains that it is not appropriate technically and scientifically, insists, convinces and in the end you say, “It’s a good thing you insisted Onur.”

Onur was a man who would do whatever he wanted since he was little. I wanted him to do an internship in the architecture work I had undertaken at the American base. Onur’s job was to deal with the construction site officers. Frankly, I was hesitant because it was his first professional work experience. However, he overcame the difficulties he faced. I thought that if Onur could overcome these difficulties, he would overcome all the difficulties he faced, and it happened just as I thought.

My friend, the talented Onur Özgül, is one of the few people to whom I find the phrase “larger than life” most appropriate. I wouldn’t be surprised if Onur were to descend from the sky to our garden one day. My father used to say that you can’t do business with friends, but we had no hesitation in handing over our house in İstinye to him. Despite working limited hours in the middle of winter, Onur and his team completed our home on the exact date we wanted, and with incredible agility, with a “signature” staircase connecting the two floors. I remember Onur seeing the same design staircase on an overseas trip months before we started recreating our home, and sending it to me, as if he felt in his bones. We still live in the house we had before the pandemic, just as we did the day we bought it, but what is really impressive for me is that even after all this time, Onur still asks if there is anything wrong with the house. I understand better how special and rare these qualities of “ownership” and “curiosity” can be when I hear people’s stories of architecture on various scales. My only regret is not decorating our walls with Onur’s artwork, but it’s never too late to do so.

Onur is one of the most fun and enjoyable people for me to work with. We worked together on a very difficult and complex project in Bozburun, although it was not a big one. Throughout that project, Onur impressed me a lot with his ability to find easy solutions, to be constructive, and to give utmost importance to the other person’s wishes.

You dream, you get very excited and you find an architect to make all these dreams tangible and visible. He listens to you and makes the drawing by adding some things. It may or may not be similar to your dreams but it still symbolizes your dreams. Then it is put into practice. Excitement is at its peak. Your dream is drawn, now you are going to hold it in your hands. When it is finished, it will be something beautiful but it will be far from your dream, sacrificed to the industry. You use it but you continue to dream.

Then you can have your house built by an architect who can describe and draw your heart and dreams better than you can. Especially when the implementation is over and you see the reality, if the house that comes out is beyond your dreams and more beautiful, you can stop dreaming and enjoy it.
